Donohue, Henneberry & Co.

Donohue, Henneberry & Co. was an American book publishing company based in Chicago, founded by two bookbinders, Michael A. Donohue (of Cox & Donohue) and William P. Henneberry around 1880. In 1890 the firm launched a series of inexpensive editions of popular novelists, concentrated on libraries (i.e., sets and series).

The Chicago Lakeside Directory had the following addresses for Donohue, Henneberry & Co. ^[1] : 1881, 182 Monroe ; 1890-1891, 407-425 Dearborn ; 1892, 415 and 407-425 Dearborn ; 1894, 407-429 Dearborn (3rd floor) ; 1896-1898, 415 Dearborn (3rd floor) ; 1899, 407-429 Dearborn. In 1900, the imprint Donohue Brothers (407-429 Dearborn) was also used. Perhaps, a short-lived successor to Donohue, Henneberry & Co. from which M. A. Donohue emerged. Donohue bought out Henneberry around 1900-1901 and began using M. A. Donohue & Co. imprint. However, the imprints can't be a datation clue.

Between 1890 and 1900, the company published 6 novels and at least 3 short stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle.
