Letter

My dear Sir

I hope your health is better. I heard some evil rumours and then a more reassuring one.

I saw Mr. Jordan in London and he is willing to give "The Speckled Band" and also possibly "The Fires of Fate" a chance as a stock play. The former has become this all over the England and Australia. I have told him that I will leave the matter of fees in his hands to be adjusted when we have made good. Meanwhile I will be obliged if you would help him to getting the production which is still, as I understand, unsold in New York. The affair has been a great disappointment to me and I am very keen to see if we cannot find the right audiences. I have modified the end in deference to your criticism.
