Mr. Adrian Conan Doyle

The Times (4 june 1970, p. 12)

Mr. Adrian Conan Doyle died suddenly in Geneva on Wednesday at the age of 59.

He was the second son of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, and had himself written stories in the famous idiom. He was trustee of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Estates and chairman of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Foundation. Housed at Chateau de Lucens, Lausanne, this was set up by Adrian Conan Doyle out of his share of the literary estate as a living memorial to his father. It embraces a rich selection of what might be called "Doyleiana", including his skis (he was a pioneer skier), his cricket bat, books and manuscripts.

Adrian Conan Doyle had led a full life. He travelled widely with his father as a boy and later took part in several expeditions to Africa in search of big-game fish. His books included The True Conan Doyle, Heaven has Claws, The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes, Tales of Love and Hate, and Lone Dhow.

He married, in 1938, Anna, daughter of A. G. Andersen.
