In the Sherlock Holmes stories

Notorious criminal. Also known as Vincent Spaulding. Associated with Duncan Ross to rob the City & Suburban Bank by digging a tunnel from the pawnshop of Jabez Wilson.

He is a murderer, thief, smasher, and forger. (REDH, 395)
