Lionel Barrymore Attacked by Appendicitis and Is Hurried to New York for Treatment.
Three appearances on the stage after he had been seized with an acute attack of appendicitis left Lionel Barrymore, who had been appearing in a character part in "The Fires of Fate" at the Illinois theater, in such critical condition that he was hurried to New York yesterday for treatment.
Barrymore first felt the attack last Tuesday he summoned physicians who told him he was suffering from appendicitis. He insisted on playing his regular part Tuesday night and Wednesday matinee and night, when he was seized with another attack.
His physicians then told him his condition was dangerous and advised him to return to his home Manager Morris of the Fires of Fate company said Mr. Barrymore would not return to the cast while the play was in Chicago.
