Fareham v. Portsmouth

Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle (1 june 1889, p. 2)

This match was played on the Fareham ground on Wednesday, when the home team scored another win, beating their opponents by 90 runs on the first innings. Fareham went first to the wickets, and put on 142, mainly through the efforts of the Rev. A. L. Porter, who compiled a useful 56, though he did not commence batting used half the innings had concluded. The visitors' initial venture closed for but 52, the only double scores being Dr. Doyle and "Extras;" and having to follow on, their total reached 179, in which Mr. Hornby scored 71, this year, secured the "spectacles," being clean bowled on each occasion.
