My dear Smith

It bothers me rather that in writing any instalment I have not got a copy of the preceding one. The matter is complex and it is hard to hold the threads in one's memory. Could I have proofs earlier? Or shall I hold back what I have written until the last moment?

Now I want a copy of this last proof in its final form to keep for reference.

Yours very truly
A Conan Doyle.

I have the third finished & can deliver at any moment. I am here (& at Lords) until Wednesday next.
