Daily Express (13 january 1909, p. 5)

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who, by the way, has just had to undergo an internal operation, and is still very weak, although making progress, has written the following letter, also bearing on Mr. Stead's explanation of Miss Fisk's intentions:—

To the Editor of the "Express."

Sir, — We can all agree with Mr. Stead. If foreign critics who malign the appearance, manners and character of English woman will label their contributions humourous, as he suggests, then no possible ill-feeling can ensue.

ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE.
